PREVALENCE OF MENINGOCOCCAL SEROGROUPS AND DESCRIPTION OF THREE NEW GROUPS1
Evans, Jimmy R., Malcoim S. Artenstein and Donald H. Hunter (Walter Reed Army mst. of Rsch., Washington, D. C, 20012). Prevalence of meningococcal serogroups and description of three new groups. Amer. J. Epid., 1968, 87: 643646.Over a three-year period 843 strains of Neisseria meningitidis from patients with systemic infection were studied. Sulfadiazine resistance was found in 59% of isolates in the first year and 76% in the last half-year. Group B strains accounted for 78%, group C 16% and group A 1.3% of the isolates. Three new serogroups are described (Bo, 29E and 135) which represented 4.3% of the cases. The Bo strain appears to be identical to the Y strain of Slaterus.
