RE: "INCREASES IN HYPERTENSION AND BLOOD PRESSURE DURING PREGNANCY WITH INCREASED BONE LEAD LEVELS"

Rothenberg et al. have reported that the 95% confidence intervals of the tibia lead odds ratios for hypertension in table 3 of their article (1, p. 1085) were incorrectly calculated based on a 1-µg/g change in tibia lead instead of a 10-µg/g change in tibia lead, as stated in the table and calculated for the other bone lead odds ratios. (The tibia odds ratios were correctly calculated in the published table; only the 95% confidence intervals were incorrect.) The error does not affect the conclusions of the article (tibia lead was not significantly associated with hypertension). The corrected table is shown below.

TABLE 3. Adjusted* odds ratios for hypertension in the third trimester and postpartum according to blood and bone lead concentrations among pregnant women attending King-Drew Medical Center prenatal care clinics (n = 668), Los Angeles, California, 1995–2001

The authors and the Journal regret the error.
