RE: "GENITAL HUMAN PAPILLOMAVIRUS INFECTION: INCIDENCE AND RISK FACTORS IN A COHORT OF FEMALE UNIVERSITY STUDENTS"
American Journal of Epidemiology2003157218226In table of a recent Journal paper by Winer et al. (1), the numbers of human papillomavirus infections per person-years at risk were reversed for length of time of having known a partner before sex. The corrected results are shown in the table extract.
|
The corrected numbers show that the majority of women in this cohort knew their partners for at least 8 months before sex. The originally reported hazard ratio (HR) of 1.8 (95 percent confidence interval (CI): 1.2, 2.7), which suggests that women who know their partners for less than 8 months before sex are at an increased risk of infection, is correct.
The authors thank Jokin de Irala for bringing this error to their attention.
