sincerely regret this oversight.
The recent review of the fourth edition of the Dictionary of Epidemiology in the Journal (1
) was generous and constructively critical in ways that will help all who prepare the next edition—for which there are already about half a dozen important new entries and several proposed adjustments of the existing wording. As the Editor-in-Chief of the dictionary, I am grateful for the kind comments.
It is unfortunate that the published review is headed by an incomplete listing of the names on the title page of the fourth edition. Michel C. Thuriaux, an epidemiologist who has worked for many years for the World Health Organization, played a prominent role in the preparation of all four editions, and his valuable contributions to the dictionary should be recognized by recording his name as that of one of the principal editors. Janet Byron Anderson, a consultant in medical linguistics, made unique contributions to the fourth edition, and her name also appears on the title page.
