Tumova, B., B. C. Easterday, A. Stumpa (Dept. Veterinary Science, Univ. of Wisconsin, Madison, Wis. 53706). Simultaneous occurrence of A/equi-1 and A/equi-2 influenza viruses in a small group of horses. Am J Epidemiol 95: 80-87, 1972. A/equi-1 and A/equi-2 influenza viruses were recovered during an outbreak of influenza among 9 horses assembled from 6 locations over a period of one month prior to the outbreak. Of the 9 horses, 4 which did not have signs of disease were subsequently shown to have antibody against one or both types of virus. Virus was recovered from 4 of the ill horses. Two of the viruses recovered were shown to be the A/equi-1 and the other 2 were A/equi-2. The magnitude of response and persistence of antibody against 3 of the influenza virus antigens, ribonucleoprotein, hemagglutinin and neuramini-dase are described.
