ERRATUM

ABSTRACT

The Journal has been notified by Dr. Joseph V. Selby et al. of a citation error in their paper, "Precursors of Essential Hypertension: Pulmonary Function, Heart Rate, Uric Acid, Serum Cholesterol, and Other Serum Chemistries" (Am J Epidemiol 1990;131:1017–27). In a discussion of previous epidemiologic evidence of an association of pulmonary function with the incidence of hypertension (p. 1024), the wrong paper by Sparrow et al. was inadvertently cited. The correct citation is given below.

11. Sparrow D, Weiss ST, Vokonas PS, et al. Forced vital capacity and the risk of hypertension: The Normative Aging Study. Am J Epidemiol 1988;127:734–41.

Dr. Selby et al. add that this revised citation does not change any aspect of the interpretation of their paper and offer their apology to readers of the Journal and the authors of this important paper.
